Xenoparrot Puzzles August Update


If you're reading this devlog and haven't played Xenoparrot Puzzles yet, go play it! It's free and needs lot's of feedback to improve. There are currently 6 levels.

Now to the devlog.

I started making level 6 this month, and started to add the library to the hub world. When it's finished the library will serve to give the game a story, keep track of your level completion times, and give hints, along with a couple miscellaneous things probably.

The reason it hasn't gotten very far is because this month I spent 2 weeks on an old side project (which I will finish eventually, but I don't work on it as regularly as Xenoparrot Puzzles), and a week long game jam. Now I can add the game "In Hot Water!" to games I've made. That was my first 3D game.

I also changed some things in the hub world, giving bigger windows and moving things around. Along with that I renamed some buttons for the sake of clarity.

The final thing I've done is add a browser build, so now players can solve the arbitrary puzzles of this game from the comfort of their browser.

For the short remainder of this devlog I just want to explain the purpose of some features.

—The timer.

I added this mostly for myself, so that if I wanted to speedrun the game I wouldn't need an external timer. I have one built right into the game, with high precision.

—First 2 levels

If you played them you know they aren't much to be called puzzles. That's because they aren't. They are tutorials to teach the players the basics of controlling a birx.

That's all for this month's update. It wasn't much but I'm holding myself to keep development going each month, even if I'm doing game jams and side projects.
